The Bigfoot Poetry FestiVal

The Bigfoot Poetry Festival (first named the Bigfoot Regional Poetry Slam) was conceived on a bus in Chicago by several Portland poets after the crumbling of PSI. What started as a two-day regional tournament for a handful of Pacific Northwest teams has morphed into a three-day full blown festival - filled with open mics, writing and performance workshops, a poetry market, curated showcases, and a grand scale slam tournament.

The goal of the Bigfoot Poetry Festival is to be as accessible and welcoming to everyone as possible. With the exception of Finals Stage, all events are completely free and open to the public. The registration fee for competing teams is purposefully kept low, so that no one feels barred from entering. We work with ADA compliant venues, are COVID conscious, and do outreach to provide opportunities for local youth poets.

The Bigfoot Poetry Festival strives to showcase the best poetry, the best of the city of Portland, and the best our community has to offer. We believe everyone’s voice deserves to be heard, and that poetry has the power to change lives - but only if we let it.
